Genome Editing and UGENE

The NTI Circles regularly host genome editing competitions for young people. This time, such an event was held at NSU ( Novosibirsk State University). Students from different years tackled real-world tasks in synthetic biology, using modern databases, exploring the intricacies of biological processes, and working with bioinformatics data. We are pleased that our Unipro UGENE, an open-source bioinformatics product designed for research biologists, helped them in their endeavors and is also popular in higher education.

The organizers invited us to share our experience of creating high-tech software with the young biologists participating in the competition. They were curious about everything—from the retrospective development of bioinformatics at the company to current realities and future prospects. Various technical questions were discussed, and the students shared their ideas for improving the interface. We agreed to continue our collaboration using all available resources.
