OpenMeetings with WebRTC
In early April, the Unipro team released a new 5.0.0-M1 version of OpenMeetings, featuring a long-awaited update — WebRTC support. Work in this direction began several years ago, and now the core media functionality, including audio and video transmission as well as screen sharing, has finally been integrated with WebRTC. This enables streaming between browsers, allowing media signals to be processed with more modern codecs, which improves connection stability and speed. Additionally, it greatly simplifies the implementation of mobile clients. Unlike the closed Flash technology that had been used in OpenMeetings from the beginning, WebRTC is an open technology, standardized and supported by international internet regulators. It is built into the latest versions of all popular browsers. Thus, starting with the new OpenMeetings release, Flash technology will be completely phased out of this popular video conferencing system.
